Phantom Wallet experienced an uptime issue on October 28, causing temporary disruptions to some of its services. The wallet team posted an update on X (formerly Twitter), advising users to be patient while they work on resolving the problem.
The disruption was attributed to a backend issue related to the Grass Airdrop One event. Grass, a Solana-based AI data platform, launched its token airdrop on the same day, which affected Phantom Wallet’s operations.
Users were instructed to ignore any simulation errors and to use decentralized applications (dApps) if they needed to make urgent transactions. Despite the downtime with Phantom Wallet, the Solana network itself continued to operate normally with 100% uptime, reflecting its continued stability.
The Grass token airdrop has been a major event, with listings on top exchanges like Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin, and Crypto.com, contributing to the strain on Phantom Wallet’s backend systems.
SolanaFloor has reported that the GRASS meme coin distribution is the largest in Solana’s history, based on the number of users involved. According to the platform, 2 million users have attempted to trade their GRASS tokens within just a few hours of the airdrop’s launch.
This massive demand for the meme coin has caused significant strain on platforms, leading to some disruptions. Similar issues were observed in August during the airdrop of the DOGS token, where platforms like Telegram Wallet and several crypto exchanges faced prolonged disruptions. The DOGS token caused multiple instances of downtime, and the issues persisted for several hours, affecting users’ ability to access their wallets and complete transactions.
Despite the technical challenges with wallet services, the demand for meme tokens like GRASS and DOGS highlights the growing popularity of such assets within the crypto community, often driving high volumes of user activity and trading.
