Scroll, an emerging Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, has partnered with Cysic Network to integrate zero-knowledge (ZK) computing power into its system, aiming to accelerate Ethereum’s scaling capabilities.
In a recent press release, Scroll announced its collaboration with Cysic Network, a layer providing zero-knowledge proofs, to enhance Ethereum’s transaction speed and efficiency. Cysic has two ZK-powered hardware products in development—ZK Air and ZK Pro—scheduled for release in 2025. These products are designed to handle high transaction volumes without sacrificing speed or security. According to Cysic, the hardware will prioritize support for Scroll’s advanced proving techniques.
Sandy Peng, Co-Founder of Scroll, emphasized that integrating Cysic’s ZK Proof technology would enable Scroll to offer a high-performance infrastructure for developers while providing users with a fast and secure on-chain experience. Peng stated, “By continuously improving our technology stack, we’ve found that Cysic strengthens our capabilities for achieving the highest throughput and fastest finality among all ZK rollups.”
As Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem expands, so does the transaction volume, causing congestion on the Ethereum mainnet. This congestion often leads to bottlenecks, higher latency, and increased costs, which can impede the optimal operation of Layer 2 solutions. Recognizing this, Scroll has prioritized the adoption of scalable infrastructure capable of handling growing traffic while maintaining performance.
Leo Fan, Co-Founder of Cysic, highlighted the importance of ZK technology in addressing the scalability demands of the blockchain ecosystem. He believes that Scroll’s collaboration with Cysic will play a crucial role in improving the speed and quality of Ethereum scaling. “By reducing ZK proof generation time from hours to minutes with our GPU servers, we’re not only accelerating Layer 2 scaling but also laying the groundwork for broader blockchain innovation,” Fan said.
Cysic’s ZK Air is a portable solution designed to speed up ZK proof generation across various environments, while ZK Pro is a more traditional mining rig-like product aimed at scaling ZK-proof generation for large applications.
In October 2023, Scroll launched its Ethereum mainnet, utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to significantly enhance transaction speed and reduce costs on Ethereum. By integrating this cryptographic method, Scroll has aimed to address bottlenecks and offer a more efficient Layer 2 solution for Ethereum users.
As the Ethereum Layer 2 landscape continues to grow, this partnership with Cysic represents a crucial step toward overcoming scalability challenges and ensuring Ethereum’s infrastructure can meet increasing demand.
