Perpetual trading expands as Coinbase lists PENGU, POPCAT, and HNT futures

Coinbase, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges in the United States, has expanded its perpetual futures offerings by adding support for three new tokens: Pudgy Penguins (PENGU), Popcat (POPCAT), and Helium (HNT). These perpetual futures will be available on both Coinbase International Exchange and Coinbase Advanced starting from February 13, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. UTC.

This addition marks a significant step in Coinbase’s ongoing expansion of its perpetual trading capabilities. Perpetual futures are a type of derivative product that allows traders to speculate on the price movements of assets without an expiration date, providing more flexibility and opportunities for market participants. By offering futures for PENGU, POPCAT, and HNT, Coinbase aims to attract both institutional and retail traders from select non-U.S. jurisdictions.

In addition to these new tokens, Coinbase also introduced perpetual futures for Berachain (BERA) on February 6, 2025. The launch of BERA-PERP came shortly after the mainnet launch and token generation event of Berachain, a layer 1 blockchain with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility. The listing of BERA on major exchanges like Binance and Coinbase has led to a price surge, adding significant momentum to Berachain’s growth.

The launch of PENGU, POPCAT, and HNT futures is part of Coinbase’s broader strategy to broaden the range of assets available for perpetual trading. Earlier in 2025, the exchange also listed perpetual futures for other prominent tokens such as Tezos (XTZ), Axie Infinity (AXS), and MultiversX (EGLD), with markets for AXS-PERP, XTZ-PERP, and EGLD-PERP now live. These markets offer a variety of order types including limit, market, stop, and stop-limit orders, which provide more trading strategies for users.

As part of its ongoing international expansion, Coinbase continues to serve non-U.S. institutions through its Coinbase International Exchange, while Coinbase Advanced caters to eligible non-U.S. retail users. With the addition of these new tokenized futures markets, Coinbase is solidifying its position as a key player in the global crypto derivatives market, giving traders more options for hedging and speculating on a variety of digital assets.
