Crypto podcaster Cobie burns 60% of SOL meme ‘UPONLY’

Crypto podcaster Cobie burns 60% of SOL meme UPONLY

Crypto influencer and investor Cobie (Jordan Fish) responded with a sarcastic “See you in hell” to a user promoting a Solana-based meme coin styled after his former podcast, UpOnly.

On Friday, Nov. 8, Cobie burned 60% of the UPONLY token supply, which was a gift sent to him by an anonymous developer. The token, which shares its name with Cobie’s now-defunct UpOnly podcast, had 600 million coins sent to Fish. Despite receiving the tokens, Fish clarified that he had no involvement in the creation or promotion of the meme coin.

Initially, Cobie posted a screenshot showing a swap of UPONLY tokens for the dog-themed meme token Dogwifhat (WIF). He followed up with another image that appeared to show a burn transaction, humorously commenting, “This was ‘worth’ $17 million when I burned it lol.”

In crypto, burning refers to the permanent destruction of tokens, effectively removing them from circulation. Solana’s blockchain explorer Solscan verified that the supply of UPONLY was reduced to 400 million, confirming that Cobie had indeed burned 600 million tokens.

Following the burn, UPONLY briefly surged to a $45 million market cap but quickly dropped to a much smaller $4.3 million valuation, according to data from DEX Screener.

UpOnly was a popular podcast sponsored by the now-defunct FTX crypto exchange, where Cobie (Jordan Fish) co-hosted with Brian Krogsgard, also known as Ledger. Following the collapse of FTX in late 2022, both hosts discontinued the podcast and moved on to other crypto-related projects.

Fish, in particular, has been focused on Echo, a collaborative venture aimed at building a crypto angel investor startup. As for Krogsgard, his post-FTX activities have remained largely under the radar, with little public information about his current endeavors.
