Bitcoin miner Canaan unveils mining rigs designed as home heaters at CES 2025

At CES 2025, Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer Canaan introduced innovative mining rigs that double as home heaters, showcasing the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S. These rigs are designed to make cryptocurrency mining more accessible while providing an environmentally friendly way to generate heat for homes. Canaan’s announcement on January 8 highlighted its commitment to transforming the mining experience by turning the process into something more practical for everyday use.

The Avalon Mini 3 boasts a hashrate of 37.5 Th/s, making it a robust option for mining Bitcoin. Alongside its mining capabilities, the device also functions as a heater, offering a dual-purpose solution for users looking to mine and warm their homes simultaneously. Canaan emphasizes the energy efficiency and quiet operation of the Avalon Mini 3, making it a suitable choice for newcomers and seasoned miners alike.

The Avalon Nano 3S is a more affordable and compact version of the Mini 3, designed for beginners or those with limited space. With a hashrate of 6 Th/s, it provides a smaller-scale option for individuals interested in entering the mining space without committing to larger setups. The portable design makes it easy to use in various environments, bringing the opportunity for mining to a broader audience.

Canaan’s founder, NG Zhang, stated that the goal with these devices is to make Bitcoin mining accessible to everyone, as well as to rethink how technology can create value while minimizing environmental waste. The company is offering a preorder deal for the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S, with prices set at $899 and $249, respectively, for those who purchase before the end of February.

This is not the first attempt by mining companies to merge crypto mining with home heating. Other companies like Heatbit and D-Central have previously introduced similar products, but these devices have yet to see widespread adoption due to issues such as high costs, noise levels, and the volatility of the crypto market. Nonetheless, Canaan’s efforts reflect the industry’s ongoing push to explore ways to make cryptocurrency mining more user-friendly and energy-efficient, as well as its potential to offer added value to consumers.
