Five students from the University of The Bahamas have each been awarded $10,000 for their NFT creations as part of the university’s NFT Digital Arts Project, supported by Cordell Broadus, the son of rapper Snoop Dogg. The winners were announced on October 7, with three students recognized in the Visual Art category and two in the Music category.

The project is funded by the Champ Medici Arts Fund (CMAF) Scholarship Award at the university, which was established in March 2024 with a $100,000 donation. The CMAF is a $1 million philanthropic initiative founded by Broadus in collaboration with the Tezos Foundation, aimed at nurturing emerging artists and musicians globally who want to create using the Tezos blockchain.

In interviews, some winners expressed how the competition enhanced their understanding of NFT technology. The CMAF and Tezos Foundation plan to provide ongoing support through educational tutorials, materials, and technology to help students mint, market, and sell their NFT works.

Tezos, which launched in 2017, is known for its proof-of-stake smart contracts platform and recently announced an upgrade called “Tezos X,” enhancing its performance and interoperability.
