Aptos Labs has made a significant leap forward in blockchain technology with the introduction of its new execution engine, Shardines, which has enabled the Aptos network to achieve 1 million transactions per second (TPS). This major milestone represents a substantial breakthrough in blockchain scalability, allowing Aptos to process 1 million TPS for non-conflicting transactions and over 500,000 TPS for conflicting transactions.
Shardines is a sharded execution engine that allows Aptos to achieve horizontal scalability, a crucial feature for increasing throughput. By decoupling consensus from storage, Shardines enables the network to scale independently, maximizing performance while maintaining efficiency. Aptos Labs highlighted that this new feature supports near-linear throughput scaling, allowing their 30-machine cluster to surpass the 1 million TPS benchmark.
This scalability breakthrough is particularly important as the blockchain industry pushes toward enhancing execution speed.
