Theta Labs has announced a strategic collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore to integrate its EdgeCloud platform into the university’s Speech and Language Laboratory. This partnership, unveiled on January 27, 2025, further strengthens Theta Labs’ position in the decentralized cloud computing market, which serves sectors like AI, media, gaming, and entertainment.
NTU, one of Singapore’s leading universities and globally ranked 15th in the QS World University Rankings 2025, is joining a growing list of prestigious academic institutions that have adopted Theta Labs’ innovative EdgeCloud technology. The collaboration aims to leverage EdgeCloud’s distributed GPU infrastructure, enabling NTU’s Speech Lab to advance its research in areas such as speech processing, language processing, multilingual Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), and real-time AI applications. Professor Chng Eng Siong, from NTU’s Speech Lab, highlighted how Theta’s platform would enhance the lab’s ability to conduct cutting-edge research, particularly in real-time transcription and noise reduction.
This marks another significant milestone for Theta Labs, which has already established similar partnerships with top universities like Seoul National University, MIT, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, Theta Labs has expanded beyond academia, with clients in the esports industry, such as FlyQuest, and major sports organizations like the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The collaboration with NTU also signals the growing adoption of EdgeCloud in Southeast Asia. Theta Labs’ EdgeCloud platform, which launched in May 2024, provides a hybrid cloud architecture that is designed to offer easy-to-use decentralized GPU infrastructure. In line with its expansion plans, Theta Labs’ 2025 roadmap includes the beta launch of EdgeCloud’s hybrid cloud architecture on June 25, featuring distributed edge architecture, developer API interfaces, and upgraded GPU nodes.
This continued expansion of EdgeCloud usage across both academic and commercial sectors highlights Theta Labs’ ambition to revolutionize cloud infrastructure with decentralized solutions, particularly in AI-driven research and applications.
