The Dogwifhat Las Vegas Sphere project is facing growing scrutiny as donations for the initiative, which raised over $650,000, remain untouched in a crypto wallet, and the promised icon of the dog wearing a pink hat has yet to appear on the Las Vegas Sphere. The project, launched in January 2024 by a group of five crypto influencers led by Zion Thomas (alias Ansem), aimed to raise enough funds to display the Dogwifhat meme coin icon on the world’s largest LED screen at the Las Vegas Sphere for an entire week. By March 2024, the campaign surpassed its fundraising goal, but since then, updates have slowed, and concerns have mounted.
As of January 2025, nearly 10 months after the fundraising goal was exceeded, donors are questioning the project’s legitimacy. On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), users have highlighted the inactivity surrounding the project. One user, @0xShual, expressed frustration with the lack of updates, pointing out that the funds, held in USD Coin (USDC), have been idle for months. “What the f***? Do people not care about this?” they wrote, adding that the capital could at least be farmed or invested while waiting for the project to be realized.
The last update from Ansem in July 2024 joked about a “blue-screen error” preventing the icon’s placement on the Sphere, further fueling doubts. With the project seemingly stalled, questions are being raised about whether the team intends to follow through with their promise or if the funds are being mismanaged.
Compounding the situation, the value of the Dogwifhat meme coin has taken a hit in recent weeks, with a nearly 45% drop in the past month and an 18% decrease in the past week. This decline in the coin’s value only adds to concerns that the project may be in jeopardy.
The Las Vegas Sphere itself, a 366-foot-high, 516-foot-wide globe located near the Las Vegas Strip, is renowned for displaying various emojis and advertisements on its massive LED screen. While this platform is seen as a prime spot for viral advertisements, the Dogwifhat icon remains absent, leaving backers wondering if they’ll ever see their donations result in the intended display.
Despite the growing dissatisfaction, there are no formal calls for refunds yet, and the project’s influencers have not provided a clear roadmap for completing the campaign. As a result, many traders and donors are left uncertain about whether they will see the project come to fruition or if their contributions will be lost to inactivity.
