Botanix Labs Unveils Final Testnet for Its Bitcoin Layer-2 Solution

Botanix Labs, a decentralized layer 2 platform designed for Bitcoin-native decentralized finance (DeFi), has launched the final testnet for its Spiderchain Bitcoin L2 solution, named Aragog. This testnet release marks an important milestone toward the platform’s full mainnet launch, scheduled for 2025. Aragog Testnet is a significant upgrade from the initial v0 testnet, launched in November 2023, and includes the first pre-mainnet deployment of multiple Bitcoin-native applications.

Aragog is designed to support the development and testing of decentralized applications (dApps) by developers. It features multiple Bitcoin-native applications like the Bitcoin-backed stablecoin Palladium, decentralized exchange and automated market maker Bitzy, lending/borrowing marketplace Spindle, and additional platforms such as Rover (for liquid staking tokens) and BitPerp (a perpetual decentralized exchange). These projects are all built on the Spiderchain testnet to demonstrate its capabilities for Bitcoin-related DeFi use cases.

A key improvement in the Aragog Testnet is its decentralized nature. It goes beyond a single-node configuration, incorporating distributed sequencers and full nodes, which are geographically spread across multiple continents including the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. This decentralized structure is designed to enhance the scalability and reliability of the network.

Botanix Labs aims to bridge Bitcoin with the broader DeFi ecosystem, providing opportunities for Bitcoin holders to participate in DeFi activities beyond merely holding the asset. The ecosystem is attracting a variety of decentralized finance applications, including liquid staking token protocols, lending platforms, and others focused on maximizing the utility of Bitcoin in decentralized environments.

The Botanix team has partnered with key industry players such as Chainlink, Vertex Protocol, and Solv Protocol, among others, to strengthen the ecosystem and integrate advanced technologies. Botanix’s collaboration with Chainlink includes utilizing Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to enable seamless cross-chain communication.

The launch of the Aragog Testnet follows Botanix Labs’ successful fundraising efforts, with the company raising $11.5 million in a funding round led by Polychain and Placeholder in May 2024. As Botanix moves toward its mainnet launch, it continues to build on its partnerships and infrastructure, positioning itself as a key player in integrating Bitcoin with the rapidly expanding DeFi space.
