Eclipse launches public mainnet of first SVM L2 on Ethereum

On November 7, the Eclipse Foundation announced the official launch of Eclipse‘s public mainnet. Eclipse is a Solana Virtual Machine (SVM)-powered layer-2 solution built on Ethereum, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to combine the strengths of both Ethereum and Solana for users.

According to a press release from the Eclipse Foundation, this development is a major step in Eclipse’s mission to leverage the advantages of both blockchain ecosystems. Vijay Chetty, CEO of Eclipse, highlighted that bridging these two leading networks could stimulate a new wave of development in decentralized applications (dApps) and decentralized finance (DeFi), as well as consumer applications and gaming.

The integration of Solana’s performance with the security and decentralization of Ethereum is expected to drive increased activity and growth across several key sectors.

“Eclipse is uniquely positioned as the first solution to bridge the gap between Solana and Ethereum, offering a powerful platform that caters to both communities. Our goal is to empower developers from both ecosystems to build and scale their dApps like never before, unlocking new opportunities across the largest networks in the industry.”

Eclipse’s launch of its public layer-2 mainnet follows the developer-focused mainnet release in October. Since that release, Eclipse has expanded its ecosystem by integrating with projects like Orca, Nucleus, and Save.

The platform allows developers to harness the parallel execution capabilities of Solana while benefiting from Ethereum’s liquidity and security. This integration also provides access to Ethereum’s extensive user base and asset pool. Eclipse’s architecture uses the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) to offer scalability and enhanced user experiences.

With this approach, Eclipse aims to resolve the fragmentation issue that previously forced developers to choose between the Solana and Ethereum ecosystems. By combining the strengths of both, Eclipse is positioning itself as a unified platform for developers.
