Axie Infinity is a decentralized, turn-based card game built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows players to breed, raise, battle, and trade Axie creatures. The game is inspired by franchises like Pokémon and Tamagotchi, using Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to represent unique in-game assets, including Axies (creatures), abilities, land plots, and other collectibles.

Players can earn two tokens in the game:

1. Axie Infinity Shards (AXS): A governance token used for voting on the future of the game and its ecosystem.
2. Small Love Potions (SLP): An in-game token primarily used to breed Axies.

Who Created Axie Infinity (AXS)?

Axie Infinity was created by Trung Nguyen, the CEO of Sky Mavis, a Vietnamese gaming studio. The studio has received multiple rounds of funding from notable investors, including Mark Cuban and Blocktower Capital, to expand and develop the Axie Infinity ecosystem.

How Does Axie Infinity Work?

Axie Infinity’s core gameplay revolves around the breeding and battling of Axies. The game includes various mechanics like ability cards and stats that influence battles, and Axie traits that make each one unique.

1. Gameplay:

• Axies are creatures with distinct body parts (eyes, ears, horns, etc.), which give them specific abilities and characteristics. Their traits include:
  • Health (HP): How much damage they can take.
  • Speed: Determines attack order.
  • Skill: Adds damage when playing combo moves.
  • Morale: Increases critical strike chances.

2. Battles:

• Players engage in 3v3 battles where they use ability cards to attack and defend. The cards are unique to each Axie based on its body parts and class.
• Arena battles and tournaments are the primary way to earn AXS and SLP tokens.
• Players can also take an adventure-based route to battle non-player characters (NPCs) called Chimera, which rewards additional tokens and items.

3. Breeding:

• Axies can breed to create offspring with unique traits.
• Each Axie can breed up to seven times, and breeding costs increase with each event.
• After five days of development, the offspring can be used for battles, further breeding, or sold in the Axie Infinity Marketplace.

4. Land:

• Axie Infinity allows players to purchase and own virtual land plots in the Lunacia world.
• These plots can be upgraded and serve as homes for Axies, and developers can create games within these plots using the Lunacia SDK.
• Players can gather resources in the game to upgrade their land.

Axie Infinity (AXS) Marketplace

The Axie Infinity Marketplace is where players can buy, sell, and trade Axies. Players can browse listings based on criteria such as class, body parts, statistics, and price. Transactions are made using the Ronin Wallet, a cryptocurrency wallet created specifically for Axie Infinity to handle ETH and AXS transactions. The marketplace also allows users to list their Axies for sale or purchase Axies from other players.

Ronin Sidechain

To solve the issue of high gas fees and network congestion on the Ethereum blockchain, Sky Mavis introduced the Ronin Sidechain in 2020. This Ethereum sidechain is specifically designed for Axie Infinity, allowing users to experience faster, cheaper transactions while interacting with the game, without the need to pay high fees typically seen on Ethereum.
